How does Electroracle work?

At Electroracle, everyone is able to modify content as well as keeping track of their collection, wishlist, follow artists and much more.

General functionality

Here you are able to read about the functionality on the site available for all our visitors, even if you are not registered to the site.

Register on Electroracle

To to go the register page, click on the icon in the upper right corner

To register on the site, you have three options:
  • Manual registration
  • Facebook account
  • Google account
To register with your Facebook or Google account, you simply need to click on the corresponding button and accept the information we need to register you. If you want to manually register, you need to fill out the registration form, firstname, lastname, e-mail and your password and click Register account.

All release versions with a date that is today or in the future will be displayed here with what format they will be released in, together with the release date of course.
Dashboard - Now streaming

Now streaming displays music playing right now on different Internet radio stations. This data is presented by the help of our friends and partners at MI On Air.

MI On Air gather data from hundreds of stations and from that data, we look to see if that artist is represented on Electroracle. If the artist is on Electroracle, we display what track it is and on which station. If the track is registered on the site, we also display which release it is from.

Here we display the for most recent media reviews created on Electroracle. If you click on the release name, you will be linked to the release profile page. If you want to read the review, click on the "Read the article" button to be linked to the site the review snippet comes from. We only save a maximum of 140 characters on Electroracle, never the full review.

If you want to explore more reviews, click on "Explore" in the top menu, then select "Reviews" to get a complete list with different nifty filters.

On Electroracle, you can connect videos from YouTube and Vimeo to an artist or release. Here we display the four latest ones. To view the video, simply click on the image and a video popup will be displayed.

If you want to explore more videos, click on "Explore" in the top menu, then select "Videos" to get a complete list with different nifty filters.

Listen (Spotify suggestions)

In the Listen category, we give list releases that have a connected Spotify. If you have the following filters to select from

  • Recommended (Logged in users will get based on their preferred genres, guests will get site recommendations)
  • Top rated (Highest rated releases on an average of media and user reviews)
  • Latest (newly added releases on the site with Spotify connected)
  • By genre (select the genre you want to see releases to listen to)

Newsfeed

In the newsfeed, we are gathering news from leading news sources within the genres we cover. We are using RSS-feeds to gather the data and we only short piece of the news and link to the news source if you want to read more

Here you are able to read about functionality that is for our registered users. If you are nog registered yet, this is a great way to read of what you can expect.

Login on Electroracle

To to go the login page, click on the icon in the upper right corner

When you registered, you registered with either of these options
  • Manual registration
  • Facebook account
  • Google account
As long as you have the same e-mail on both Facebook and Google, you can use either of them to login, if you registered with your e-mail and a password, you need to use this to login.
Collection - Add a release version to your collection

If you are logged in, you are able to manage our impressive collection of releases here on Electroracle.

To add a release version to your collection, search for the release (to read more searching, check out "Searching on Electroracle" in the General Functionality section) and go to its profile page. On the profile, scroll down to the release versions sections. A release can have multiple versions/releases, so make sure you find the right version (if you can't find the version you own, you can edit the release and add it, read more editing releases in the Edit content section). When you have found the right version, click on the " Add to collection" button.

When the release version is on your collection, the button will be orange and the text will change to "In your collection". If you click the icon, you are able to manage the following information about your collection item:
  • Media condition
  • Sleeve condition
  • Unique copy number
  • Notes
Click on "Save and close" to save the changes you have made in the details.

If you want to remove it from your collection, you can just click the " In your collection" button and it will be removed.

As default, adding/removing release versions in your collection will show up as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard. If you don't want your collection actions to show up on the dashboard, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my collection private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide your collection from being viewed by others on your user profile.

If you want to get an overview of your collection and manage it, click on in the upper right corner, select "My profile" option in the dropdown. This will take you to your own profile. Click on " Collection" in the user profile menu and you will get a list of all of your collection. Part from filtering your collection, you are also able to edit the details and remove release versions from your collection without going to the release profile page.

If you click the " Details" button you are able to manage the following information about your collection item:
  • Media condition
  • Sleeve condition
  • Unique copy number
  • Notes
Click on "Save and close" to save the changes you have made in the details.

Comments

On Electoracle, you are able to comment on the following item profile pages
  • Releases
  • Artists
  • Labels

On the item's profile page, you can see if the profile has comments indicating by the numeric value on the " Comments" button in the profile menu.

If you want to comment on a profile page, click on the " Comments" button in the profile menu and you will see a text field. Write your comment and click on "Submit comment" to save your comment.

If you want to remove your comment, click on the red symbol in the upper right corner of your comment.

Remember to keep your language clean. We will remove all comments that includes threatening, hate speech, racism, illegal or just being a jerk.

On Eletroracle you are able to follow profiles to make sure you don't miss the latest news from your favorite band or label. To read more about following a profile, please refer to the "Follow - Start following a profile" FAQ.

On the dashboard, we display a list of the latest events from the profiles you follow. You are able to see the profile and what event they where credited for, as well as when it happen.

If you want to get an overview of your collection and manage it, click on in the upper right corner, select "My profile" option in the dropdown. This will take you to your own profile. Click on " Following" in the user profile menu and you will get a list of all the profiles you are following. Part from filtering your following list, you are also able to stop following the profile without going to the profile page.

If you want to remove it from your following list, you can just click the "Remove" button in the details popup and it will be removed from your list.

As default, your following list will be public for anyone visiting your user profile. If you want to hide your following list from other visitors, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my following private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide adding/removing to the following list as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard.
Follow - Start following a profile

On Electoracle, you are able to follow the following profile types:
  • Artists
  • Labels
  • People
  • Media
  • DJs
  • Companies
When you are following a profile on Eletroracle, you will be noticed when their profile is edited, they get credited to a release, have a new review and all those nice things to know about your own band/label, or your favorite bands you want to know when something fun happens. The notifications are displayed on your dashboard (please refer to "Dashboard - Updates from those you follow" FAQ for more information).

To follow a profile, go to their profile page and click on the " Follow" button right beside their profile image.

To remove a following, simply click the button again, now labeled " Following".

As default, your following list will be public for anyone visiting your user profile. If you want to hide your following list from other visitors, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my following private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide adding/removing to the following list as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard.
Listen (Recommended Spotify suggestions)

In the Listen category, we give list releases that have a connected Spotify. If you are logged in, we look at the top 3 genres you visit the most and give you suggestions based on those genres. Each time you go to a release profile page, we save those genres to your profile to help us improve the recommendations we give you.

To listen to the releases, you need a Spotify account. To find out more about Spotify, go to https://spotify.com
My mailbox - Manage your mailbox

On Electroracle, we have an internal message functionality where you are able to send and receive messages from us or other users.

If you want to go to your mailbox, click on in the upper right corner, select "My mailbox" option in the dropdown.

In your mailbox you are able to write new messages, to do so, click on the " Write new mail" button to get the new mail popup. Search for a user by their name, write a title and your message and click on "Send message" to send it.

You have three folders. Inbox, Sent and Trash.

To read a message, simply click on it. You are able to read messages in all folders. You can read messages in any of the folders.

You are able to reply to a message by clicking it and write your reply in the reply field below the message. When you are done, click on "Send reply". You are only able to send reply from messages that are in your Inbox or your Trash.

When reading a message in your Inbox, you are able to mark it as unread and you can also send it to your trash can. When reading a message in your trash can, you can send it back to your Inbox if you have changed your mind.

On Electroracle, we have an internal message functionality where you are able to send and receive messages from us or other users.

If you want to send a message to another user from their profile page, either navigate to the user profile page from the Explore -> Users list, or search for the user.

When you are on the user profile page, click on " Send message", write in a subject and a text, then click on "Send message".

If you want to see your profile, click on in the upper right corner, select "My profile" option in the dropdown. This will take you to your own profile.

On your profile you are able to see the following information:
  • Your details
  • Your introduction text
  • Your latest ratings
  • Your latest activity
  • Your achievements
  • Your collection
  • Your wishlist
  • Your following list
  • Your ratings
  • Your reviews

If you want to change some details on your profile or your general settings, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" option in the dropdown.

In your settings, you are able to change or modify the following information:
  • Firstname
  • Lastname
  • Nationality
  • Presentation
  • Privacy and notifications

  • Convert social login to password login
  • Generate API keys for our API
Ratings - Manage your ratings

If you want to get an overview of all your ratings you have set on releases, click on in the upper right corner, select "My profile" option in the dropdown. This will take you to your own profile. Click on " Ratings" in the user profile menu and you will get a list of all of your ratings so far. Part from filtering your ratings, you are also able to remove ratings here without going to the release profile page.

Using the "Rating DESC" filter combination is a great way to be reminded of your favorite releases!

As default, your ratings will be public for anyone visiting your user profile. If you want to hide your ratings from other visitors, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my ratings private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide your ratings as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard.
Ratings - Rate a release

If you are logged in, you are able to rate all the releases on Electroracle between 1 and 10. To rate a release, go to the release profile page and click on the corresponding to the rating you want to set. The rating stars are located just below the artist's name and the release name in the release cover art on the top of the page.

If you want to change your rating score, simply click on the star corresponding with the new rating score you want to set. If you want to cancel your rating all together, click on the same rating that you have selected before.

If you hover over each star, you will get a tooltip displaying what rate number it is and a word describing the rating, for example 8 - Great

Your rating will count towards the average release rating as well as the average user rating.

As default, your rating will show up as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard. If you don't want your ratings to show up on the dashboard, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my ratings private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide your ratings from being viewed by others on your user profile.
Wishlist - Add a release version to your wishlist

If you are logged in, you are able to manage a wishlist of releases here on Electroracle.

To add a release version to your wishlist, search for the release (to read more searching, check out "Searching on Electroracle" in the General Functionality section) and go to its profile page. On the profile, scroll down to the release versions sections. A release can have multiple versions/releases, so make sure you find the right version (if you can't find the version you own, you can edit the release and add it, read more editing releases in the Edit content section). When you have found the right version, click on the " Add to wishlist" button.

If you want to remove it from your wishlist, you can just click the " In your wishlist" button and it will be removed.

As default, adding/removing release versions in your wishlist will show up as an activity in the "User activity" list on the Dashboard. If you don't want your wishlist actions to show up on the dashboard, click on in the upper right corner, select "My settings" in the dropdown menu and on the My Settings page, set "Make my wishlist private" to "Yes" and then click "Save settings". This action will also hide your wishlist from being viewed by others on your user profile.

Creating content

All our registered users are able to create new content on the site, here is some information on how to get started.

Create an artist

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

An artist can be created from the main menu, Create -> Artist, but also when you are creating another item that you want to connect an artist to, such as:
  • Release artist
  • Similar / Inspired / Toured with
  • Release credit
  • Track credit
  • etc...
To create a new artist, click on the "+ Create new artist" above the input field if you can't find the artist you are searching for. This will take you to the create artist page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Artist name - The artist's name and the different name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Formed in - The year the artist was formed, possible to select "Unknown" if you don't know.
  • Active until - The year the artist disbanded. You can also select "Active" if the artist is still active or "Unknown" if you don't know
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Countries - The country or countries where the artist is from
  • Webpages - Here you can add links to their website, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Members - Here you can add people as members of the artist. You can set if they are still active or if they are inactive
  • Similar artists - Here you can add artists that are similar to this artist. This will display the similar artists on the artist profile you are creating
  • Inspired by - Here you can add artists that has inspired this artist. This will display the artists that has inspired on the artist profile you are creating
  • Toured with - Here you can add artists that has toured with the artist you are creating. This will display them on the profil page of the artist you are creating
  • Profile image - A photo of the artist. If we find the artist on Spotify, we will suggest an image to import from there, but make sure you click "Preview" first, since many of the pictures from Spotify is album art. You can also upload it from your local hard drive or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
  • Spotify - If we find the artist on Spotify, we will display an option to add the Spotify link to the artist. You can also select to not connect Spotify to the artist as well as writing in a link to their Spotify manually
  • Videos - Here you can link YouTube and Vimeo videos that the artist has released. Remember to only add videos that the artist or label has released, no copyright infringement!
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview artist". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit artist" to finalize your submit
Create a company

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

A company can only be created when connecting it to a release, such as giving the company/studio release version credit.

To create a new company, click on the "+ Create new company" above the input field if you can't find the company you are searching for. This will take you to the create company page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Company name - The company's name and the different name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Company address - If the company has a visiting address, you can write it here. Just start typing and Google Maps will help you with the rest
  • Formed in - The year the company was formed, possible to select "Unknown" if you don't know.
  • Active until - The year the company disbanded. You can also select "Active" if the label is still active or "Unknown" if you don't know
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Countries - The country or countries where the company operate
  • Webpages - Here you can add links to their website, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Staff - Here you can add people as staff members of the company. You can set if they are active or inactive
  • Profile image - The logo of the company that will be displayed as their profile image. You can upload it from your local hard drive, or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview company". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit company" to finalize your submit
Create a DJ

A DJ can be created from the main menu, Create -> DJ, but also when you are creating another item that you want to connect an DJ to, such as:
  • Release credit
  • Track credit
  • etc...
To create a new DJ, click on the "+ Create new DJ" above the input field if you can't find the DJ you are searching for. This will take you to the create DJ page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • DJ name - The DJ's name and the different name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Formed in - The year the DJ was formed, possible to select "Unknown" if you don't know.
  • Active until - The year the DJ disbanded. You can also select "Active" if the artist is still active or "Unknown" if you don't know
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Nationality - The country or nationality of the DJ
  • Person - Here you can connect a Person as the person behind the DJ name, so that they are connected. Simply search for the Person's name or create a new person if you can't find him or her.
  • Genres - Here you can add the genres the DJ usually play during his or her sets. Search for the genre and add them to the DJ
  • Webpages - Here you can add links to their website, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Profile image - A photo of the artist. If we find the artist on Spotify, we will suggest an image to import from there, but make sure you click "Preview" first, since many of the pictures from Spotify is album art. You can also upload it from your local hard drive or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview DJ". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit DJ" to finalize your submit
Create a label

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

A label can be created from the main menu, Create -> Label, but also when you are creating another item that you want to connect a label to, such as:
  • Release label
  • Release credit
  • etc...
To create a new label, click on the "+ Create new label" above the input field if you can't find the label you are searching for. This will take you to the create label page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Label name - The label's name and the different name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Parent label - If the label you are creating is a sublabel, you can search and set the parent label here
  • Company/Store address - If the label has a label store or a visiting address, you can write it here. Just start typing and Google Maps will help you with the rest
  • Formed in - The year the label was formed, possible to select "Unknown" if you don't know.
  • Active until - The year the label disbanded. You can also select "Active" if the label is still active or "Unknown" if you don't know
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Countries - The country or countries where the label operate
  • Webpages - Here you can add links to their website, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Staff - Here you can add people as staff members of the label. You can set if they are active or inactive. You are also able to set one or several "Positions" for the person, such as "Label Manager", "Webmaster" etc.
  • Profile image - The logo of the label that will be displayed as their profile image. You can upload it from your local hard drive, or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview label". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit label" to finalize your submit
Create a media

A media can be created from the main menu, Create -> Media, but also when you are creating a new media review and the media is not yet created.

To create a new media, click on the "+ Create new media" above the input field if you can't find the media you are searching for. This will take you to the create media page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Media name - The media's name and the different name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Formed in - The year the media was formed, possible to select "Unknown" if you don't know.
  • Active until - The year the media disbanded. You can also select "Active" if the label is still active or "Unknown" if you don't know
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Webpages - Here you can add links to their website, Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Staff - Here you can add people as staff members of the media. You can set if they are active or inactive. You are also able to set one or several "Positions" for the person, such as "Editor", "Webmaster" etc.
  • Profile image - The logo of the media that will be displayed as their profile image. You can upload it from your local hard drive, or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview media". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit media" to finalize your submit
Create a media review

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

To create a media review for a release, go to the release profile and click on " Edit" in the profile menu. Then click on " Add media review" to go to the create media review page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Media - The media outlet this review is from
  • Writer - Either manual text input or you select a person from the Media staff list. To add a person to the media staff list, click on "+ Edit media" above the Media input field to add a person.
  • Link to original review - The link to the review
  • Language - The language of the review text
  • Rating - The rating the media gave the review from 1 to 10. If the media uses another form of rating values, for example, "out of 5", you have to recalculate the rating to fit our 1-10 rating system
  • Language - Copy and paste the first 140 characters of the review. The text field has a maximum of 140 characters.
When you are done, click on "Submit media review" to finalize your submit
Create a person

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

A person can only be created when connecting it to another item. This means you are only able to create a new person when you are adding things like:
  • Artist members
  • Label staff
  • Media staff
  • Company staff
  • Release credit
  • Track credit
  • etc...
To create a new person, click on the "+ Create new person" above the input field if you can't find the person you are searching for. This will take you to the create person page.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Person name - The person's name and his or her name variations and aliases. The most common name should be set to primary
  • Nationality - The nationality or the country the person is currently living in
  • Biography - Either by manual text input or you can link to their English Wikipedia page and the information from the wiki will be displayed on the profile page
  • Profile image - A picture of the person. You can either upload it from your local hard drive, or copy the image from a website link
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview person". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit person" to finalize your submit
Create a release

Everyone that is logged in is able to create content on Eletroracle. On each input, there's a icon, if you hover it you will get information of what kind of input or content is expected.

A release can be created from the main menu, Create -> Release.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Release name - The name/title of the release
  • Artists - Here you add the artist or artists that are performing on this release, if you can't find the artist, click on "Create new artist" and follow that flow
  • Genres - Here you add the genres that are most fitting for this release
  • Cover image - The general/master cover image for this release and collection of release versions. If we find the release on Spotify, you are able to import the image, otherwise you can upload it from your hard drive or copy the picture link
  • General information - General information about the release that fits all the release versions
  • Additional images - More pictures or promotional material
  • Spotify - If we find the release on Spotify, you are able to connect this release. You can also select not to connect the release or paste in the link to Spotify if we for some reason did not find it
  • Videos - Here you can link YouTube and Vimeo videos that are connected to this release. Remember to only add videos that the artist or label has released, no copyright infringement!


For each release, you must create at least one release version. Click "Add new release version" to create a new one. You can also copy one you have already created if you are adding a second release version with similar data as the first. You must select one of the release versions as the default version. This version will always be displayed on top of the release profile with the track list extended.

Here you are able to submit the following data:
  • Release date - Here you select when this release vesion was released.
  • Region - The country or region where this release version was released. Most common is the country of the label
  • Release type - If the release version was released by the artist themselves or by a label
  • Copies - If it is a limited release, you can add the number of copies released here
  • Specific version information - Information that is directly connected to this release version
  • Specific version image - If this release version has another cover image than the general cover image
  • Label / Catalogid - If you selected release type "Label", you must add at least one label here and if it has a catalog id, you add it here as well
  • Version credits - Here you add credits for this release version. You select a credit type and connect it to a profile item
  • Tracklist - If we found the release on Spotify, you can import the tracks for quicker content creation. Otherwise, you create a new disc
  • Disc data - When you create a new disc you need to add information. You can select format type, a custom disc name and add different of suiting tags. If you have already created the disc, you click on the orange disc name to edit this data. If you have created multiple discs, you are able to copy or move all tracks to another disc
  • Tracks - Each track must have a track name, and if you know the minutes and seconds you should add them as well. For each track, you are able to move it up or down in the tracklist, edit the information, copy or move it to another side or disc.
  • Track credit - To add track credit you click on , select a credit type and connect it to an artist, DJ or person.
  • Title - You are not only able to add tracks to your tracklist, you can also add titles. To add a title, click on "Add title" and write in the title name. You are able to move your title up or down, and of course edit it.
When you are done, you can preview your submit by clicking "Preview release". When you are satisfied, click on "Submit release" to finalize your submit

Edit an artist

Edit a media review

Everyone that is logged in is able to edit content on Eletroracle. When you want to edit a media review, you can access the edit media review link from all the review lists on profile pages. Such as Release->Reviews, Artist->Reviews or Label->Reviews. In the review list, you are then able to click "Edit" below the "Modify" title to go to the edit media review content flow.
